Differences between Backup and Clone

Introductions:

The Qiling Disk Master has two main functions: Backup and Clone. Backup creates a copy of the disk, but the original disk remains unchanged. Clone, on the other hand, creates a bootable copy of the disk, which can be used as a replacement for the original disk. To choose the right function, consider whether you need to preserve the original disk or create a bootable replacement. If you need to keep the original disk intact, use Backup.

What is the Clone function?

Clone The cloned content can be considered as a copy, retaining the original source's format, allowing for direct content verification after cloning.

When cloning a system, partition, or disk, the destination partition or disk will be completely overwritten, so it's essential to back up any important data before proceeding to avoid losing it.

For system disk cloning, you can directly use the newly cloned disk to boot your PC. Simply install the target disk internally after cloning and you may need to modify the boot mode in BIOS/UEFI when booting from the target drive.

If you want to migrate your system disk to a larger capacity disk or from HDD to a new SSD, use the feature "Disk Clone".

PS:

What is the Backup function?

Backup AFI (Archive File Image) is a type of backup file created by the EaseUS Todo Backup software. It contains a snapshot of a system, partition, or disk at a specific point in time, allowing for the restoration of the system to its previous state in case of a disaster or system failure. The AFI file is a compressed image of the backed-up data and cannot be directly opened or accessed like a regular file. Instead, it must be restored or mounted using the EaseUS Todo Backup software to access the backed-up data. The AFI file is essentially a snapshot of the system or data at a specific point in time, providing a way to recover from system crashes, data loss, or other issues.

To check the backup image, you can either restore it first and then verify its contents, or use the "Explore Image" feature to preview the backup without restoring it. Instructions for both methods are available on the provided link.

The backup image itself won't overwrite the destination location, but for system, partition, and disk restores, the destination partition or disk will be overwritten. It's recommended to perform a backup if there's important data in advance to avoid any potential loss.

This feature allows you to recover your data and system in case of data loss or system crash, providing a secure way to protect your data and system.
