Partition restoration is a process used to recover deleted, lost, or damaged partitions, which can occur due to accidental deletion, disk formatting, virus attacks, power outages, or physical damage to the storage device. This process can help restore access to important data and files stored on the affected partition.

  • Accidental partition deletion: When a partition is accidentally deleted, partition restoration can help recover the deleted partition and its contents, thus preventing data loss.
  • Partition table corruption: If the partition table becomes corrupted or is affected by a virus attack, it may become unreadable or inaccessible, but partition restoration can attempt to repair the table and recover the affected partition.
  • Formatting partition errors: When a partition is mistakenly formatted, causing the data on the partition to be erased, partition restoration can attempt to recover the partition and its data. This process involves scanning the hard drive for any remaining data from the formatted partition and attempting to rebuild the partition structure, allowing for potential recovery of the lost data.
  • Boot issues: Damaged boot sectors or missing boot records can prevent the operating system from starting up, but partition restoration can be used to fix boot-related issues, allowing the operating system to boot normally.
  • Recovering data from lost partitions: If a partition is damaged or lost but the partition table still exists, partition restoration can recover data from the lost partition, making it accessible again.

How to Restore Partition/Volume with Qiling Disk Master in Windows 10 step by step

Prerequisites for Partitions/Volumes restore

Before restoration, there are some things you need to know.

Qiling Disk Master's partition restore feature relies on a prior partition backup made by the software. You'll need to have at least one partition image created by Qiling Disk Master, regardless of the source partition being the current crashed one or another computer's partition. Note that even if you have multiple Windows backup points, they won't be recognized by Qiling Disk Master, as it only supports its own partition images.

If you haven't created a partition backup with Qiling Disk Master, you can create one based on another working partition, but the restored partition will be a copy of the backup, not the original crashed partition. This method is viable if the backup is suitable.

Users should recover their system using a backup image created on their current failed disk. If the PC fails to boot or crashes, they can create a WinPE bootable media on another healthy computer using Qiling Disk Master or Qiling PE Builder, and then boot the crashed PC from the WinPE media to run the partition restore under WinPE.

Users should create a WinPE bootable media and store it safely to ensure they can boot a failed computer, as not having it may result in being unable to recover the computer.

If you don't have these items, please download Qiling Disk Master and prepare what you need.

Restore partitions or vloumes under WinPE:

If your PC won't boot or has crashed, create a WinPE bootable media with Qiling Disk Master and use it to boot your PC, then run the partitions or volumes restore.

        Please follow the steps below:

        1. Please create a WinPE bootable media using Qiling Disk Master on another healthy computer.

        2. To recover a failed computer, insert the bootable media into the computer and boot from it. This may require changing the boot sequence and Boot Mode in the PC's BIOS (also referred to as UEFI).

        3. When the PC boots up successfully, Qiling Disk Master will run automatically, allowing you to start the partitions or volumes recovery process, similar to running a program under Windows.

        Notes:
        • If you regularly back up your partition or volume, each backup will create an image at a specific time, resulting in multiple time points to choose from.
        • The destination disk/partition will be completely replaced with the source data, erasing any existing information. If the destination contains valuable data, it should be backed up before proceeding.
        • If applications are running on the destination partition or disk, Qiling Disk Master will ask you to restart your computer and run the restore operation in "Restart Mode".
        • Partition restoration should be approached with caution, requiring a backup of important data and a good understanding of the process and potential risks. For more complex issues, consulting a professional data recovery service provider is recommended.

        Conclusion

Partition restoration is crucial for data recovery, system repair, and partition management, enabling the recovery of lost data, resolving system issues, and adjusting partitions to maintain system functionality.

        FAQs:

Q: The error message "Unable to get the backup information because the image file does not exist, or it can't be accessed..." appears when you click the Restore or Advanced button on a backup task on the Home screen.

A: The task may be unable to find the backup files, which could be due to unknown reasons. To resolve this, delete the task and then re-import it by selecting the backup files under Tools-->Import/Export Configuration. This should allow the task to reappear on the Home screen.
