When a NAS device is no longer sufficient for storing data or has stopped working, a new one is needed. To avoid losing the old data, it's convenient to copy the contents of the old NAS to the new one. This process allows for a seamless transition, making it an ideal solution for users who want to preserve their existing data.
Copying data from an old NAS to a new one can be a huge task, especially with large amounts of data. While traditional copy and paste methods can be time-consuming, there are alternative ways to achieve NAS to NAS data transfer. One option is to create a backup image of the old NAS, which can simplify the process and save time.
You can use Qiling Disk Master Standard, a freeware, to easily backup your NAS to another NAS.
To troubleshoot the issue with the NAS devices not being recognized by the Qiling Disk Master Standard, check the IP addresses of the two NAS devices first. Once you have verified the IP addresses, download and install the Qiling Disk Master Standard software on your PC. This software is necessary to access and manage the NAS devices.
To backup a NAS to another NAS, a process that can be applied to Synology NAS as an example, follow these steps. This involves setting up a backup task on the source NAS to transfer data to the destination NAS, which can be done by going to the "Control Panel" and then selecting "Backup and Restore" from the list of services. From there, you can set up a new backup task and specify the destination NAS, as well as the type of data to be backed up.
Step 1. Launch Qiling Disk Master. Click File Backup under the Backup tab when you open its main interface.
Step 2. To select the folders on the NAS device you want to backup, click on 'Folder' and then select 'Share/NAS'.
Step 3. To add a Synology NAS device, select Share/NAS Device and click Add Share or NAS Devices at the bottom left. Then, enter the IP address of the Synology NAS and input the username and password if required.
Step 4. Select the folder on the NAS device to backup and click OK, then you can add all folders on the Synology NAS one by one.
Step 5. To add a shared folder from another Synology NAS to the backup destination, select "Add Share or NAS Devices" from the drop-down menu of the destination box. Then, in the pop-up window, enter the network path of the other NAS and add a shared folder to store the backup image.
Step 6. After all the settings, click Proceed to launch the whole process.
Tips:
Qiling Disk Master provides a simple way to copy data from one NAS to another, but its capabilities extend beyond that. It can also be used to clone an SSD to a new SSD and sync data between a laptop and a desktop, offering a range of uses beyond initial expectations.
