Cloning an NTFS drive involves copying all contents from an NTFS partition to another drive, saving time compared to copying files one by one directly. This process might be necessary due to various reasons, such as the need to back up important data, transfer a large number of files, or replace a faulty drive with a new one.
✌Backup data: You can now back up any important data stored on an NTFS system or non-boot partition, regardless of whether you plan to copy the NTFS system or not.
✌Avoid bad sectors: If a disk has bad sectors and needs to be replaced, you can clone its essential partition to a new disk.
✌Save time and disk space: Copying an entire disk can be time-consuming, so condensing vital data into one partition and then copying that partition can save both time and space.
✌Transfer data: If all your concerned files are stored in one partition, you can make the process of exchanging the disk easier by copying the partition instead of the whole disk. This approach allows you to keep the partition intact, including all your files, and transfer it to the new disk without having to copy the entire disk.
When it's time to manage your disk partition, you can use built-in Windows tools like Diskpart and Disk Management to delete, shrink, extend, or format partitions, but if you need to copy an NTFS partition, you'll need to use a third-party tool.
Here, we would like to share with you a free partition manager called Qiling Disk Master Standard, which offers a "Partition Clone" feature that enables you to clone a partition to another disk.
Before you start, please back up any important data on the destination drive as it will be deleted during the partition clone process.
Step 1. Install and launch Qiling Disk Master, click the "Tools" tab page and select "Clone Partition".
Step 2. Select the destination partition or unallocated space where you want to move your source partition, then click "Next".
Step 3. You will enter the Confirm interface where you can check the source and destination clone location, then click the "Next" button to continue.
Notes:
Step 4. In the next window, you can adjust the target partition size, either by fitting the source partition to the target partition or skipping the step.
Step 5. You can preview the partition copy operating, please click "Proceed".
The cloning process will begin and you can monitor its progress. Once completed successfully, a congratulation window will appear. The partition layout on the destination disk will then be identical to that of the source disk.
When the process is complete, all data has been successfully transferred to the target partition, and installed programs or applications can load and work on the destination drive just as they would on the original source NTFS partition.
If you're cloning the boot drive, you can use the "Partition Clone" function, or upgrade to the professional edition which has a "Migrate OS to SSD" Wizard that moves only the OS partition to the new drive and ensures a secure boot.
You can copy an NTFS data partition using Qiling Disk Master Standard, which can not only clone a partition on Windows 10, 8, 7, but also clone a hard disk to another hard disk via the "Disk Clone Wizard".
Qiling Disk Master Server offers advanced partition management capabilities on Windows Server, surpassing native Windows tools. It can perform tasks such as merging partitions, moving partitions, and converting disks between MBR and GPT without deleting partitions, among other functions.
