Quick Navigation:
As you continue to install applications on your Windows system, you may start to feel frustrated with the slow performance of your computer. Launching and closing applications takes longer than usual, making it annoying to use your computer. When you check the "Computer" directory, you'll notice that the C drive has become red, indicating a potential issue that needs to be addressed.
The warning that you are running out of disk space on C drive is a prompt to delete old and unnecessary files or move programs from C drive to other drives to create more free space. However, this solution proves ineffective when the problem persists after a short period. To address this issue, you need to increase the memory of your C drive, but you should do so safely.
To optimize computer performance by increasing memory of C drive, there are three effective methods at hand.
To extend the C drive using Disk Management, first, open Disk Management by pressing the Windows key + R, typing "diskmgmt.msc" in the Run dialog box, and pressing Enter. Then, right-click on the C drive and select "Extend Volume.
1. Right-click the "Computer" icon on the desktop and select the "Manage" option.
2. Click on "Disk Management" to open Windows Disk Management.
3. Select C drive, right-click and hit "Extend Volume".
4. To extend the C drive space using the Extend Volume Wizard, first, you need to open the Disk Management console. Then, select the drive that you want to extend (usually the system drive, which is C drive in most cases) and right-click on it to select the option to extend the volume.
Tip: If the "Extend Volume" option is greyed out due to lack of contiguous unallocated space next to the C drive, consider deleting an adjacent partition to create space, but only after backing up crucial data, as this process can be time-consuming and error-prone.
Some people prefer to increase C drive space using Diskpart, which involves a series of steps to achieve this goal.
1. To open the Run dialogue, press the Windows Key + R. Then, type "diskpart" and click "OK".
2. Type list volume and press Enter.
3. To select the volume you want to extend, type the volume number (e.g.
4. To extend the size of the C drive, type `extend size=2048` (or any other desired size in megabytes, e.g.
5. Type exit and press Enter to exit Diskpart.
Tips:
● You may fail to extend C drive if there is no contiguous unallocated space on the disk.
● If you don't specify a size, the C drive will be expanded to fill all the adjacent unallocated space.
You can increase the memory of your C drive using Qiling Disk Master Professional, which can extend the partition even if the unallocated space is not adjacent to the C drive, and is compatible with various Windows operating systems.
Step 1. Launch Qiling Disk Master, right click C drive, and select "Move/resize Partitions".
Step 2. Find unallocated space, and drag to it.
Step 3. Confirm "Proceed" to execute the operation.
Tip: The unallocated space behind D drive will be merged with C drive using the "Merge Partitions" option.
If you notice your computer slowing down, try to boost its performance by increasing the memory of your C drive using the methods mentioned earlier. However, a more practical solution is to use Qiling Disk Master, a powerful partition manager that can also help you move partitions, allocate free space, and more.
