Create Windows 11/10/8/8.1/7 Bootable USB with Qiling Disk Master


With the growing trend of BYOD (Bring Your Own Device), Microsoft has introduced Windows To Go, a feature in Windows 8/8.1 and Windows 10 Enterprise Edition that allows users to boot their Windows environment from a certified USB flash drive. This enables users to create a portable work environment that they can deploy on any computer, making it easy to create a Windows 10/8 bootable USB.

If you're not using Windows 11/10/8/8.1 Enterprise Edition, you're out of luck for using wintogo. But don't worry, Qiling Disk Master can still help you create a bootable USB flash drive from a Windows 11/10/8/7 ISO or ESD file, even without the Enterprise version or a certified USB. This means you can still make a Windows to go USB drive, although you'd need a specialized USB for the built-in Windows function.

Step by Step Guide to Install Windows 11/10/8/7 on USB Drive with Qiling Disk Master

Qiling Disk Master is a software that allows users to create a portable Windows environment, similar to Microsoft Windows To Go, on any Windows system, including Windows 7, 8, and 10, as long as they have a valid installation disc or ISO file.

Create Windows To Go with system disc/ISO

Step 1: Plug the USB drive into a USB port on the computer, ensuring it's detected by the machine.

Step 2: Download, install, and launch Qiling Disk Master. The program will automatically display your USB drive. Then click "Tools" and "Windows To Go Creator" in the top interface.

Step 3: Choose "Create Windows ToGo for personal computer" and click Next.

Step 4: To create a Windows ToGo with a system disc or ISO, select the first option, then click the folder icon to manually choose the ISO file, and finally click "Next" to proceed.

Note: The program will automatically choose the first edition of Windows ISO to create Windows To Go, which defaults to Home Edition. If you prefer Pro Edition, you need to manually extract the install.wim file from the "sources" folder and select it to create Windows To Go.

Step 5: Select a USB drive as target and click "Proceed".

Note: The system creation process can be customized by selecting the type of system to be created, including General, VHD, and VHDX options, and choosing the target system's startup mode, which can be set to Legacy, UEFI, or Legacy&UEFI, all of which can be accessed through the Advanced button.

Step 6: The program will inform you that the data on the USB drive will be deleted, and it recommends using free backup software like Qiling Disk Master Standard to back up data. After clicking "Yes", the progress to create a Windows 10/8/7 bootable USB drive will begin.

Create Windows To Go with current system

Step 1, 2 and 3 are the same as shown above.

Step 4: Choose the second option "Create Windows ToGo with current system", your current system information will be displayed, confirm the information and click "Next".

Step 5: Select a USB drive and click "Proceed".

Create Windows ToGo for Mac computer

Step 1 and 2 are the same as shown above.

Step 3: Choose "Create Windows ToGo for Mac computer" and click "Next".

Step 4: To proceed, click the folder icon to manually select the ISO file and then click the "Next" button.

Step 5: Select a USB drive and click "Proceed".

Note: In the "Advanced" button, you can choose the type of system to be created (General, VHD, VHDX) and the target system's startup mode (Legacy, UEFI, Legacy&UEFI).

With Qiling Windows To Go Creator, you can create a bootable USB drive with Windows 11, Windows 10, Windows 8, or Windows 7. Once completed, plug the USB drive into any computer, enter the BIOS settings, and set the boot order to USB first. This will allow you to boot into Windows from the USB drive.
