Qiling Fast Cache: Let's get technical!
By Logic at 2023-08-03, 710 view . 0 favoriteI am having a look at Qiling Fast Cache.
The very simple description of how it works and what it does is somewhat off putting. It is also very badly translated. (Google translate or something?)
Id like some idea of of what the caching algorithm is:
LRU?
LRU+LFU? If so; what weighting for each algo?
I note that under 'Status' (of all places) there a 'Default' and a 'Read Only' option for the cache.
What's the difference?
Is there some write caching going on?
If so; is there any write coalescing happening?
Other??
This is the level of info the more technical people require:
https://www.usenix.org/legacy/events/fast08/tech/full_papers/kim/kim_html/index.html
(It's probably also a link you want to pass to your developers as BPLRU is: +80% throughput.
-50% erase count
vs std algos)
What is the 1st cache?
ie: What is cache with 'ID 1' that has no drive letter?
How can one be sure the cache is fully turned off? (for testing/benchmarking/review)
It seems it is always on to some degree once installed.
Expanding the cache to include the caching of USB flash drives and SD cards would be nice.
In short:
The help and user interface is the most off-putting part of Qiling Fast Cache atm and needs to be expanded upon (by the developer)IMHO.
As a Netw Admin with a MCSE, I would be happy to assist with translation etc.
